Chickpea FCE Recovery in Dogs Sept 2023
Просмотров 1308 месяцев назад
Just after my last video Chickpea suffered a "spinal stroke" or FCE (fibrocartilaginous embolism). We were heartbroken as we had no idea what to expect or if she would recover, but after just 3 weeks Chickpea can walk slowly and carefully. I didn't include many specifics of her rehabilitation as it may be different for each dog, but I wanted to show a timeline of what we have done and potential...

I’m not dog owner, but I like animals. I appreciate ppl respecting others/mutual space 🫶🏻🙏🏼.
Fantastic work, Ryan! :D So great to see Chickpea moving in all these different ways.
I'm just happy that she can still enjoy a good life and I can take walks with my dog again!
Loved the video thank u so much! Super excited to let u know we will be bringing home a four month old cane corso on Friday.
I believe that chihuahua dogs are small demons.
Sadly this is because most owners of small breed dogs have no intention on training them and because they're so small they tend to ignore or downplay behavioral issues that would never be ignored in a larger breed dog. All dogs are the exact same and Chihuahuas can be absolutely wonderful pets with the proper training but the same goes with any breed. Sadly it's not the Chihuahua it's the owner!
@@DogPhilosofur that does make a lot of sense. I dont see the chihuahua owners working on training. Well I live in San Francisco so most ppl here don't train their dogs. They say they are kids not dogs. Lord help us. I sure pray u offer virtual training courses. I will pay for all the ladies with their chihuahua dogs in the baby strollers!
@@perlajim3735 I have a Jack Russell Chihuahua mix whose only eight pounds and he's the most well-behaved dog around. That's not just because he came that way, he had tons of Behavioral issues when I adopted him but I treated him like all the other dogs in my pack. I was fair and loving to him yet for my necessary and trained him just like any other dog which is why he is well-behaved and obedient just like my other larger breed dogs.
You are an amazing trainer. So glad i found your videos. Cannot thank you enough.
Thank you, glad you're getting some good information for my videos!
Great video. Thank u for the great tips.
Great video, id love to pick your brian on the dog food or watch a video w.e. I didn't know the kibble mixed with the freeze dried meats were an option.
Pick away!
@@DogPhilosofur do you treat it as a standard kibble? Dogs eat it dry or are you adding water? Are you buying it at a standard pet store? Any issues with hydration in the dogs because of the dry meat(don't recall if you said dehydrated or freeze dried)
@@adventuresofgatsby2868 Wellness Core is a major brand and available at any pet store but we do have to have the pet store custom order us the raw rev specifically. It's freeze dried raw. The dogs will certainly drink more water being on kibble and to help with this we do add some water just before we feed it to them and we also add some pureed pumpkin to every meal for fibre. It's less expensive than raw and since we travel a LOT it just fits our lifestyle. The dogs are healthy, perfect weight and their coats still feel great.
@@DogPhilosofur yeah, Gatsby and I are on the road Monday -friday, and I do enough backcountry camping that I never ventures to raw, but im always looking for other options.
Hey Ryan, I have been watching a lot of your videos lately -appreciate all the content! I have began using the "free dog" command during walks and it has made it more difficult for my dog to go number 2 I was wondering if you had any videos covering this command and how to go about showing your dog to use that as a bathroom break? Thanks!
So in the beginning, if you're switching from more of a loose style walk with no rules to something more structured, it takes some time for the dog to adjust. Simply waiting them out until they go to the bathroom and then praise and reward is the best way to go. Sometimes this means I'm stopping every 10 minutes on the walked off of the dogs some grass until I can get them to go. Some dogs have been conditioned to leave their owners around or are only accustomed to going off leash in the yard. This can certainly extend a learning curve but all dogs will adapt than the last. Stick to the plan, stay structured off your dog brakes often on the walk, reward when they urinate or defecate. It may be a bit of a waiting game but some dogs can be stubborn and require more patience.
@@DogPhilosofur okay awesome! That's kind of what I thought... My dogs issue is when he goes poo he likes walking about 50 feet while sniffing the ground, so I guess I'll just give him lots of breaks throughout the next couple weeks and make them a bit longer Appreciate the quick response!
Great video!!! Every time I walk my dog and hear those two words, I just roll my eyes! So many things wrong with that attitude. Just a little suggestion: it's a bit hard to hear you sometimes because of traffic. Perhaps a less busy street next time?😊😊❤
Thanks for the comment, yeah the microphones on these action cameras are not the best for sure!
Love Chickpea's enthusiasm on the trail. Have a merry Christmas and happy new year!
Thank Brendan, same to you!

I have been thinking about this for a while now. It is disturbing.
Hiking the Bruce end to end is pretty badass!
Right?!
E collar are barbaric
Thanks for your opinion, what's your experience level with E collars? Just curious as to how you arrived at this opinion that E collars are barbaric. You clearly don't even know how there used if you would say that. Everyone has an opinion but not all opinions are the same, some opinions are uneducated.
Hank and I do head out in the rain on days like today and get soaked. On the plus side there are less people out so it makes for a nice quiet walk!
Ha, good point!!
GOOD INFO. NO SCHNAUZER IF YOU DONT HAVE ENERGY IT DOES
Super interesting video
This is a world wide problem. At least you're doing the best you can Ryan. www.heelyourdog.com
Hi where you able to cut his nails without him biting? I don't see any other video flowing up on this one. I have a malipoo and he is the same way. He does not let me or the groomer groom him. At the beginning he was ok. He had anxiety but didn't bite but after a while 2 different groomers were not able to finish the job. I really don't know what to do. I did try to muzzle him and do a bit of grooming at a time, but he gets stiff, growls and moves. He even was able to take off the muzzle. He is such a little guy and like you said people laugh when I tell them this, but he sure can hurt someone. He has bitten my mom a few times. I have taken him to the vet and there is nothing wrong with him physically. He is not a rescue. We have had him since he was 8 weeks old.
yes I successfully cut his nails all the time now with no issue and fact with counter condition him to the point that he enjoys it. Here is a video taken only approximately one week later: ruclips.net/video/8Y6KeHApuOU/видео.html We also used an e-collar for aggression as I have great success using this tool at low levels in a number of aggression cases.
I love this! everybody asks me why I dont wear ear phones when I walk the pack. its safety and they deserve my attention!!! this is an awesome video full of wise words ps I still think this is on kevins account...idk lol!
That is a sweet hat, how would one get one of those?
douglas minty just ask ;-)
Dog Philosofur Ryan Brown That hat is sick, I'd buy one!
I feel for you guys...it must be tough! I hope everything works out her at the boarding place!!
Amazing! That was freaking crazy when Chickpea just stopped at the curb.
